Cricket Week takes place at Colwall Cricket Club, on their two pitches known throughout the week as the Top Pitch and Ghost Pitch (the lower of the two grounds is named Ghost’s Meadow). Matches take place from Sunday to Friday, and there are events on most evenings.

There is a great social aspect to Cricket Week. The local cricket club are very good hosts so a welcome can be found at one venue or another most evenings. Activities typically include a quiz night, a games night and a match against a visiting team with a BBQ hosted by Colwall CC, our host club. Friday night is the culmination of the week which is always a memorable evening with a lot of laughs, team songs and awards for players’ achievements during the week.

Friday is usually “fancy dress Friday” (the theme for 2024 is “Occupations” – any current or previous job you have had, and feel free to be as obscure as possible!), and players tend to wear their outfits (if practical) whilst playing on the final day. While taking part in the fancy dress is not compulsory, most people tend to at least make a token effort, and previous themes have included children’s tv, heroes and villains and in 2023, “Landmarks and Milestones”. The Eiffel Tower opened the batting…in 2019, the theme was “Invaders” and the Vikings visited Colwall…

Camping (over 18s only)

Many players choose to take the low cost option of camping around the edges of the Ghost Pitch, using the pavilion as a kitchen and shower block. A contribution of £5 per person per night is collected to pay for the water and electricity used in the pavilion. A microwave, fridge, toaster and kettle are available for use.
